Learning Ally

Learning Ally (formerly RFB&D®) was established in 1948 to provide recorded textbooks to veterans who where blinded in World War II. The organization has been an educational resource for more than 50 years allowing people with print disabilities to gain access to opportunities in education and careers and gain self-esteem. More than 70 percent of the people served by RFB&D (now Learning Ally) are identified as having learning disabilities. This population of students is growing rapidly as serious learning disabilities are better diagnosed.

In addition to the audio production support that Learning Ally provides to a number of federal and state agencies and to corporations, we have added several new custom products to its range of accessible format options. Both the new and existing materials meet US National Compliance Standards.

DAISY audio with structure, and 2.02 full-text/audio (both with human narration), as well as DAISY 3 text only (XML) are also among the formats available from the organization.

The Learning Ally team continues to work on ways to help meet the needs of the print disabled community that they serve, including people who cannot effectively read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disability.
