Benetech is a nonprofit that empowers communities with software for social good. Our work transforms how people with disabilities read and learn, makes it safer for human rights defenders to pursue truth and justice, and connects people to the services they need to live and prosper.

Benetech is the parent nonprofit of Bookshare®, the world’s largest library of ebooks for people with visual impairments, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and other reading barriers. Members can customize their reading experience with ebooks in audio, braille, large font, and other alternate formats and read in ways that work for them. Bookshare’s collection has over 650,000 titles and is used by people with reading barriers in over 70 countries for school, work, and pleasure reading. Bookshare is free for qualified U.S. students and schools through an award from the Office of Special Educations Programs (OSEP), U.S. Department of Education, and either low-cost or free for other members depending upon their country.

Benetech is also driving systemic change in the publishing Industry through the Born Accessible initiative, helping publishers and content creators ensure that all digital learning materials are accessible to people with disabilities from the moment they are created.
