DAISY Consortium Canada (DCC)

NNELS (National Network for Equitable Library Service) and CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access) have led the creation of a DAISY Consortium Canada group. The goal is to establish a collaborative and representative voice for Canada within the international DAISY Consortium and to provide Canadian input into the development and implementation of international accessibility standards related to digital reading and information access.

Full membership is initially limited to five national, not-for-profit organizations or associations—both English and French—that support accessible reading for people with disabilities. The founding members are:

• NNELS (National Network for Equitable Library Service)
• CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access)
• BAnQ (Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec)
• CAER (Canadian Association of Educational Resource Centres for Alternate Format Materials)
• CFLA (Canadian Federation of Library Associations)

Full members each hold one vote. The group will endeavor to work to consensus in decisions around the work undertaken, and may vote on decisions as appropriate. The group may also include Observer members—organizations that align with the group’s purpose and support people with disabilities and who are allies in the accessible reading space. These members may participate fully in discussions but do not hold voting privileges. Observer status is granted by a vote of the full members. If any other group would like to be considered for Full member status, a request can be submitted to the Chair and status can be decided by a vote of the Full members.
