How to Add Content to the Vine C and Vine E Players
Vine players are audio book players from Solar Grove Solutions. They come with inbuilt rechargeable battery that can be charged by connecting it to electricity plug. They can also be charged by simply putting them in direct sun-light making it very useful in low resource regions where electricity supply is not available. Vine player is designed to read audio books. It remembers last played position of the book and also supports bookmarks. For more information see Vine Player Overview.
This guide will walk you through the steps of transferring and managing content on these versatile devices. They come in two main categories with different file copying methods:
- Simple players with navigation only to next or previous chapter. These players have open internal memory. Content can be copied on them using standard USB C cable. Vine C1 and Vine C2 players are in this category. They can be referred to as “simple Vine players”.
- Enhanced players that support navigation based on chapters and sub-headings. These players have complex folder structure. Their internal memory is locked. A special cable and application is required to create or copy content on them. Users cannot add or delete content on the internal memory. Once an organisation prepares and copies books on the player, it becomes an audio book on which users are not able to make any changes. Vine player models E1, E2 and S2 players are in this category. They can be referred to as “Enhanced Vine players”.
Step 1: Preparing Media Files
- Gather the media files you wish to transfer. Ensure they are in compatible format such as MP3.
- If you are trying to transfer a DAISY book, you will need to convert it to file set suitable for the Vine Player. See the below guides for preparing the DAISY books for playback on Vine Player.
- After processing the DAISY book, you will get a folder which may have sub-folders and MP3 files inside it. This folder will need to be copied to the Vine Player.
Step 2: Copying files
Instructions for Simple Vine players
- Turn off the Vine player (if on).
- Connect the player to your computer with a USB C cable. The Vine player automatically enters Computer Communication Mode.
- For Vine C1, the player powers off automatically once connected.
- Access the device storage on your computer. You can access it just like any other USB drive connected to the computer. For C1, you can directly view and copy files to the internal memory. For C2, you can also access the microSD card inserted in the player or remove it and use a card reader.
- Copy and paste or drag and drop the folder with audio content prepared in Step 1 into the root directory of the Vine Player. Each book should be in a folder of its own on the root directory of these Vine Players.
- Safely eject the device and disconnect the USB cable.
Additional tips for Vine C1
- A chime sounds when you insert or remove microSD cards.
- You can prepare and format the microSD card while connected via USB.
Instructions for Enhanced Vine players
- These models have locked internal memory; files cannot be copied directly using USB.
- Use the special proprietary cable provided by Solar Grove Solutions.
- Run the Solar Grove content management application provided to organizations. This app prepares content with the correct folder structure and copy protocol.
- Copy content using the application; the software manages locked memory and content integrity.
- After organizations load content, end-users can only navigate chapters and subheadings without modifying or deleting files.
Charging for all models can be done via USB connection to power or computer, or through the built-in solar panel, making them useful in off-grid areas.
