EPUB—Conformance and Validation

Ace by DAISY

The DAISY Consortium has developed the free, open source accessibility checking tool, Ace by DAISY, to assist in the evaluation of conformance to the EPUB Accessibility Specification.

This ground-breaking new tool will help EPUB content producers meet industry requirements of accessible procurement, and will enables them to produce higher quality, standards conformant publications. Production teams can be reassured that they are performing the necessary checks to ensure that your content is accessible as possible and, consequently, meeting the needs of all readers. It also enables distributors and consumers to verify the accessibility claims of publishers.

Designed to assist content providers at any stage in their workflow, Ace by DAISY makes it easier to produce higher quality, more accessible EPUB content files that meet internationally recognized standards. See the Ace software pages for further information.

EPUBCheck

EPUBCheck is a tool used to validate EPUB files. It can detect many types of errors by checking the OCF container structure, OPF and OPS mark-up, and internal reference consistency. EPUBCheck can be run as a standalone command-line tool or used as a Java library.
