Reading Apps User Requirements
This project is intended to enhance the experience of print disabled people using apps to read accessible content. We will leverage the collective expertise and experiences of DAISY Consortium members and friends to develop a document that expresses user requirements for reading digital publications in a way that is accessible to individuals with diverse print disabilities. The audience for the document is DAISY members and other providers of specialist reading services involved in evaluating, procuring, or developing solutions for reading services. The requirements will be highly valuable for the developers of specialized reading systems and provide inspiration for mainstream reading solutions.
How is this different to Reading Systems Evaluation?
- Reading both audio and etext are in scope.
- Our scope is broader than the EPUB format.
- Rather than focussing on fundamental requirements, our user requirements will be aspirational and ambitious.
- The project output is likely to be used as a basis for procuring or developing apps for libraries operated by DAISY members.
How can I get involved?
Please complete the form to subscribe to the discussion list. This is where we will share information, ask questions, and announce activities. We will discuss issues in the email list and in the GitHub issue tracker.
Our working group will meet approximately every two weeks from January 2025. We hope to publish a requirements document in 4 to 6 months.
Background
DAISY member Dedicon identified that existing reading systems do not meet all complex needs. In November 2024 they proposed a project to develop user requirements for reading apps. The project was commissioned by and will report to the DAISY board.
