DAISY Regional Networks

The DAISY Regional Networks are established with the mission to raise awareness, build capacity, and provide accessible reading and writing solutions for inclusion of individuals with print disabilities. We collaborate with governments, organizations, and communities to drive positive change.

Through DAISY Regional Networks we aim to improve the access to knowledge and increase availability of accessible content, as well as relevant assistive technologies in the region, by supporting the implementation of the UNCRPD, Sustainable Development Goals, Marrakesh Treaty, and National Copyright legislations, which facilitate the production and sharing of accessible content amongst persons with disabilities, as well as the assistive technologies required to access the content. The DAISY regional networks facilitate active participation of stake holders in addressing regional socioeconomic and language issues to end the book famine for persons with print disabilities. Through regional networks we are also able to align with regional chapters of UN agencies and civil society organisations.

The DAISY Networks are being established to address the gap between policy and implementation, bringing together organizations from different countries to collectively work towards increasing awareness and capacity to deliver accessible content and assistive technologies for persons with print disabilities in each region.

Our engagement spans the range of steps required to bring about systemic and sustainable change. We raise awareness, build capacity, provide solutions, carry out regular surveys and research as may be required to monitor and guide our country engagements, work towards an enabling legal environment both with respect to accessible ICTs as well as copyright legislation and disseminate and share our learnings and progress through events and social media. We hope to mobilize awareness and support on this issue in the region and amongst different stakeholders and truly bring positive change in the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
